How to use Area Light Maps in 3ds Max

  1. After you download and extract the Area Light Map texture, start 3ds Max and drag the ".exr" file to the Material Editor.

  1. Click Lights on the Create Panel and choose Arnold from drop-down menu then add Arnold Light.

  1. Select the Arnold Light object and choose "Quad" as shape type. Then on the Color/Intensity section select Texture and drag the output connector of the Area Light texture node to the texture box.

  1. After you assign the texture your quad light reflection will be updated.

  1. Go to Arnold menu and select Arnold RenderView and render your scene.
