How to use Displacement with Greyscalegorilla Materials
Studio materials with displacement textures come with Displacement nodes setup. In just a few simple steps, you’ll see how materials with displacement textures can change the topography of your 3D model and bring added depth to your render.
- OCTANE
Add the Octane Object tag to your model and on the Octane Object tag Attributes > Subdivision Group tab, turn-up your subdivision level to get more detail on your model to displace.
To change the displacement of the material, open it on Octane Node Editor, select "Displacement" node and adjust the "Height" value.
- ARNOLD
Add the Arnold Tag to your model and on the Arnold tag Attributes > Subdivision tab, select "catclark" as type and set "Iterations" to 3, on Displacement tab; the default Height value is 10 cm, set Bounds padding same value as displacement. You can increase the values to get more details. And enable "Autobump".
- REDSHIFT
(Latest release of Redshift 3.6.0.4 added support for automatic displacement without the need for an RS Object tag.)
We recommend that you add the RS Object tag to your model for fine-tuning adjustments. On the RS Object tag Attributes > Geometry tab, check "Override", then enable "Tessellation" and "Displacement" to tweak the values. Also check "Enable Auto Bump Mapping". Increase "Displacement Scale" value to add more details.
- CYCLES
Make sure your object has enough polygons, the denser your mesh, the better your displacement results will be.
You can add more detail to your object by adding Subdivision Modifier
Before starting please select Cycles as render engine and enable Viewport Shading: Rendered mode to see the material.
- Click Add Modifier > Generate > Subdivision
- In the modifier settings you can adjust the Render value, higher values will give more details however it might increase the render time.
- Adjusting displacement value in the material node: Go to Shader Editor and switch to Object Shader and adjust the value on the Height Scale node to change the displacement scale.
- Please select Cycles as render engine and enable Viewport Shading: Rendered mode to see the material.
