Cinema 4D HUB FAQs

What Operating Systems Do You Support?

All of the Greyscalegorilla Plus plugins are supported for macOS and Windows 10. They have been tested under macOS version 10.13.6 upwards.

Do I Require Internet Connection

Internet connection is required to download and license the plugins in your version of Cinema 4D. If you then go offline, that plugins will continue to work for 14 days before you need to sign in to refresh your licenses.

When you are offline you will see the number of days left displayed at the top of the HUB, before you need to log in again, ie. "14 days till next login".

What Happens if I "Sign Out"

If you press the Sign Out button in the HUB, it will take your licenses offline. Your plugins can then be used for 14 days before you will need to sign back in again to refresh your licenses.

When you are offline you will see the number of days left displayed at the top of the HUB, before you need to log in again, ie. "14 days till next login".

What Happens After Being Offline for Fourteen Days

After being offline for fourteen days, the licenses will expire, the plugins will stop working and will not load into Cinema 4D anymore. The plugins are still on your computer, and they will not be removed.

To activate them again, simply sign back into the HUB! If you have a valid Plus Subscription, then you will get new licenses for your plugins. Please restart C4D and the plugins can be used again.

Can Users Share An Asset Folder for the Plus Library?

Yes. If you work in a team and want everyone to share the same assets, rather than each individually download and install them, then you can store them on an NAS drive and have each user set their Asset Folder path to the same location.

Warning: It would be wise to have only one person assigned as the 'downloader' of any new assets. Otherwise multiple people may be downloading and installing the same assets to the same folder.

Can I Use The Plugins in Different Version of Cinema 4D at the Same Time

Yes, you can log in and use the plugins in all version of C4D from R20 upwards as long as they are all on the same computer. If you wish to move between computers, you will need to release your plugins first.

What Does "Help —> Release All Licenses Everywhere" Do & Why Would I Use It

Pressing this option will release all your licenses from any computer that you have used your licenses on before. This is useful if you have used your personal licenses in a studio for a contract, but forgot to sign out when you left. Pressing this will make sure that the next time the version of Cinema 4D that had your licenses is used, it will delete your login details from that machine and free up all of your licenses.

Signing In On Another Machine & It Is Telling Me to "Release All Licenses"

It seems you have licensed your plugins on another machine. By pressing the "Release All Licenses button, it will remove the licenses from the machine that the licenses are on, so that you can then use them on your current machine. After pressing the button, it will remove all the licenses, then proceed to get licenses for you and the current machine you are on.

If you were then to go back to your previous machine and run C4D, it will automatically sign you out of that computer. All the licenses will be removed and the plugins will no longer work. You will then have to press the "Release All Licenses" button on this machine, or alternatively you could go to the machine with the licenses and press "Sign Out and Release Licenses".

Why Don't the Greyscalegorilla Assets Show Up in R25

With the Cinema 4D Release 25, Maxon has removed their lib4d format, which we used for our library files. Please follow the steps below to convert your previous file to our new format:
  1. Open the Plus HUB
  2. Go to Help —> Update Material Libraries
This will download and install the new library files. The Plus Browser should now show your libraries.

Why Does the Project Asset Inspector Show Missing Textures

A common misconception is that Cinema 4D's built in Project Asset Inspector works with third party renderers. This can lead to some understandable confusion. Depending on the third party renderer you are using, you'll need to use the customer texture inspector built by the developer of that renderer:

  • In Redshift, use the Redshift Asset Manager
  • In Octane, use the Octane Texture Manager
  • In Arnold, use the Assets / Tx Manager

Can't See An Asset In Plus HUB

Plus Library Node Materials

The Plus Library has a new feature that allows you to create your materials as new node materials or shader graph (Xpresso) material.

  1. Select your renderer from the Renderer dropdown menu - Arnold or Redshift (Octane has its own node system)
  2. When you are using Arnold or Redshift materials from the Plus Library, you are able to select Xpresso or Node from the dropdown menu, as shown in the image below

Why Are My Asset Downloads Getting Stuck?

Do your asset downloads start, then stop? Does the resume button begin the download again, but then get "stuck" in this cycle?

This is usually caused by the location of the Greyscalegorilla Asset folder that you've defined. It needs to be a location that C4D has write access to. We normally suggest somewhere in the User folder, like in "<username>/Documents/gsg_assets/". You'll need to create the folder yourself and here is a video which explains the process in greater detail.
