HUB Step by Step Install Guide for Windows
1) Download a fresh copy of your C4D version from here.
2) To ensure that the HUB plugin works the best, confirm that you installed this path:
C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Roaming\MAXON\Maxon Cinema 4D 2024\plugins (if you are not using the C4D 2024 version, please use the path for your version of C4D)
Important Note: If there are folders or files from previous installation of GSG Hub please delete them before installation: "Greyscalegorilla" and "win_r2024_greyscalegorillahub" folders
To access that folder you can run Cinema 4D and go to Edit menu > Preferences then click the Preferences folder button. After you have access to the folder, please shut down Cinema 4D.
Important Note: Installing the plugin into a different directory and/or renaming it differently from it's original name will cause problems and it may not work properly
Unzip the new downloaded HUB file to a folder with the same name as the zip.
(i.e. if the zip name is "win_r2024_greyscalegorillahub.zip" for Cinema 4D 2024, then the folder should be named the same "win_r2024_greyscalegorillahub")
Copy it into:
C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Roaming\MAXON\Maxon Cinema 4D 2024\plugins\
If there is no plugins folder, create a folder and rename it as plugins.
3) Launch Cinema 4D, go to the Greyscalegorilla menu, click HUB to sign-in with your account email and password, and then click Plugins tab.
On the Plugins tab, click the "Select All" button (1) to check all plugins, and then click the "Install" button (2).
4) After all plugins have been installed, please restart Cinema 4D
then go to Edit menu > Preferences > Greyscalegorilla and set a path for downloadable assets.
(You can set this to your current assets folder path if you already have one)
i.e.
Important Note: Make sure your assets folder is not under any "Windows" related system folder or "Program Files" folder
- You can either use a folder in root directory of a drive. i.e. D:\GSG_Assets
OR
You can use your user Documents folder i.e. C:\Users\YourUser\Documents\GSG_Assets.
If you have multiple Windows users the using same computer, use the first suggested method.
5) After you set the GSG assets folder go to the Greyscalegorilla menu and click HUB to bring up the HUB panel. Select the "Stock Assets" tab and select your renderer from drop-down list.
Then select (1) the assets you want to download, and click "Add To Downloads" (2) button.
When the downloads are complete, click the "Install Assets" button.
To see and use your downloaded materials, go to the Greyscalegorilla menu and click Plus Library.
Now you can drag the material thumbnails to your scene objects or to the material editor. Before dragging them, make sure you select your renderer and material type New Node or Xpresso.

Important Note: Make sure your assets folder is not under the Applications folder. You can use your Documents folder, root of your user folder or root directory of a harddrive.
5) After you set the GSG assets folder go to the Greyscalegorilla menu and click HUB to bring up the HUB panel. Select the "Stock Assets" tab and select your renderer from drop-down list.
Then select (1) the assets you want to download, and click "Add To Downloads" (2) button.
When the downloads are complete, click the "Install Assets" button.
To see and use your downloaded materials, go to the Greyscalegorilla menu and click Plus Library.

How to Uninstall A Collection
Depending on what kind of asset collection you are uninstalling, you can remove collections manually by doing the following:
Uninstalling An HDRI Collection
- Navigate to your Greyscalegorilla Asset folder.
- Go to the .../hdris/ folder.
- Delete the folder of the HDRI collection you wish to remove.
Uninstalling A Material Collection
- Navigate to your Greyscalegorilla Asset folder.
- Go to the .../materials/ folder.
- Find and delete any gsglib file you see that corresponds with the collection you are removing.
- If you wish to remove an entire collection and you don't want to use it in any renderer, make sure to remove the corresponding maps folder.
- If you are removing an arnold collection, make sure to remove the corresponding arnold texture folder.
- If you removed a gsglib file for a specific renderer but you still want to use that collection with another renderer, make sure not to delete the maps folder that corresponds with the collection. Many collections share the same textures.
Uninstalling A Texture Collection
- Navigate to your Greyscalegorilla Asset folder.
- Go to the .../textures/ folder.
- Delete the folder of the texture collection you wish to remove.
Removing A Collection From the HUB's Installed Tab
- In the HUB go to the Installed tab.
- Alt + Right click (or on the mac Option + Right Click) the item you wish to remove and then click 'Remove from Install List'
- Click Yes on the dialogue.
Note: This does not remove any files from your computer, make sure to remove the files by hand by following the instructions corresponding with the Collection type above.
How to Uninstall the HUB
The three components that need to be uninstalled if you are ending your subscription to Greyscalegorilla Plus are the HUB plugin, the Greyscalegorilla plugins folder, and then Greyscalegorilla Assets Folder.
Removing the Greyscalegorilla Assets Folder:
You can skip this step if you plan on purchasing another Plus Subscription in the future. The Assets will remain in your system, but you won't be able to use them until you create a new Subscription.
1) Go to Edit>Preferences, and navigate to the Greyscalegorilla section.
2) The folder you've designated to the Greyscalegorilla Assets folder is displayed here.
3) Navigate to the location of that folder and delete it.
Removing the HUB plugin and Greyscalegorilla Plugins:
1) Go to Edit>Preferences and click 'Open Preferences Folder...'.
2) After you access the folder shut down Cinema 4D.
3) In the open folder, navigate to the plugin folder.
4) Delete two folders; "Greyscalegorilla" folder and the HUB plugin folder "win_r2x_greyscalegorillahub" (It will be named differently depending on your OS and version number, eg. "osx_r2x_greyscalegorillahub" if you are MacOS user.
