Greyscalegorilla Studio FAQs

HUB vs. Studio: What’s the difference?

Greyscalegorilla Studio is a stand-alone application that works on Mac or Windows. Studio connects with C4D, Houdini, Blender, and Unreal Engine allowing you to send assets to your 3D application in one click. The entire Plus library of assets is accessible through the Studio interface. This makes Studio especially useful for those working with multiple 3D applications

The HUB is only available to Cinema 4D users to access plugins in addition to materials and assets.

You can find a full explanation of the difference between HUB and Studio here.

How do I connect my primary 3D Software to Studio?

Studio uses Connector plugins to sync with your 3D application. After downloading Studio, you will need to download the Connector zip from the Studio download page. From there, choose the Connector for your 3D application and follow the instructions.

You can find the instructions for connecting Studio and the appropriate connectors here.

I’m a Cinema 4D user. Do I use the HUB or Studio?

The choice between using the HUB or Studio depends on your specific needs.

If you primarily use Cinema 4D plugins, you'll need the HUB as it's the exclusive platform for accessing these plugins.

If you primarily use materials and assets, and benefit from working across multiple 3D software applications, Studio is the recommended option. It offers faster performance, advanced search features, and the ability to create favorites, making it a more efficient workflow.

Is the asset download process different when using Studio vs the HUB?

Yes. Studio offers more flexibility by allowing you to select individual assets, while the HUB requires downloading entire collections.

Is my software compatible with HUB and Studio?

You can check to see if your software is compatible with our Cinema 4D HUB and/or Studio here.

Do I Need an Internet Connection? What Happens if I Sign Out?

An Internet connection is required to use and download assets. If you press the "Sign Out" button your license will be taken offline and you will not be able to use Studio until you sign-in again.

Can I Share An Asset Folder using Greyscalegorilla Studio?

Yes, you can share assets among your team by storing them on a network drive. Instead of downloading assets individually, designate a shared folder for all users to access. Each team member can then set their Studio Asset Folder path to this shared location.

Warning : It would be wise to have only one person assigned as the 'downloader' of any new assets. Otherwise, multiple people may be downloading and installing the same assets to the same folder.
